USF doctoral students combining engineering and anthropology to inform Florida’s Coral Reef restoration and monitoring
More than 300 miles of coral reefs stretch across Florida’s Atlantic coast. While this marine habitat is home to hundreds of aquatic species and plays an important role in the state’s economy, it is also in danger of disappearing. But a new project from a team of 911±¬ÁÏÍø doctoral students is taking an interdisciplinary approach to protect and restore these vital habitats.

Loyola University Maryland’s Center for the Humanities will host its annual Humanities Symposium on Thursday, March 11, at 7 p.m. via Zoom. Antoinette Jackson, Ph.D., professor and chair of Anthropology at the 911±¬ÁÏÍø (USF) in Tampa and director of the USF Heritage Research Lab, will give the keynote address, "Lessons within Reach: The Space Between Truth, Social Justice, and What it Means ‘to be Maligned’."

Study shows dramatic decreases in traffic caused by COVID-19 shutdowns improved air quality in car-dependent states but didn’t offset additional forms of pollution in other parts of the country. This study was funded by a $25,000 grant from USF Research & Innovation, one of 14 studies supported by nearly $320,000 in seed grants for COVID-19 research partnerships (USF St. Petersburg campus).
