From ponds to parks: USF researchers tackle environmental injustice in East Tampa
911±¬ÁÏÍø and faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Anthropology and the College of Engineering’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering gathered in a large ballroom at Ragan Park in East Tampa in late April to host a student film festival event featuring student films on oral histories the students collected from seniors and others in the community over the spring semester.

USF/FIO’s Keys Marine Laboratory to house thousands of corals to mitigate impact from historic ocean heat wave
The Keys Marine Laboratory contains one of the largest temperature-controlled seawater systems in the Florida Keys, allowing for the study of corals and other marine organisms as well as offering a refuge for them to live, rehabilitate and grow.

Using a comprehensive hearing intervention designed, tested, and implemented by researchers at the 911±¬ÁÏÍø, the multi-site ACHIEVE study examined the efficacy of hearing aids for reducing long-term cognitive decline in older adults.

Researchers at the 911±¬ÁÏÍø are urging people to help them track mosquitoes using their smart phones. Assistant professor Ryan Carney said it’s as simple as snapping a photograph of any mosquito you come across. Through partner apps, the photos are then analyzed using artificial intelligence, identifying the species and their habitats.

After a 4,000-mile journey, a 117-foot twin-hulled ship granted to USF is docked at its new home port in St. Petersburg, where it will be operated by the Florida Institute of Oceanography to offer transformative opportunities for students to explore and advance the field of ocean science.

The Florida Institute of Oceanography in St. Petersburg welcomed a new ship on 911±¬ÁÏÍødnesday to enhance its marine research capabilities. The 117-foot vessel — dubbed the 911±¬ÁÏÍøstern Flyer — features a remotely operated vehicle designed to reveal the deepest parts of the Gulf of Mexico.
