New sargassum system takes aim at a troublesome seaweed

Scientists at USF鈥檚 College of Marine Science are enhancing how they track and predict Sargassum blooms, creating a cutting-edge detection and forecasting system. Sargassum washes ashore each spring and summer, and when it decays, it emits a foul, rotting odor, harming marine life and disrupting local communities.
