Dr. Bruce Lubotsky Levin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Child & Family Studies in the USF College of Behavioral & Community Sciences. His teaching and research interests include the areas of mental health and substance use services delivery, behavioral health policy, mental health informatics, managed behavioral health care, and translational research in adolescent behavioral health.
He is Co-Principal Investigator of the USF Institute for Translational Research in Adolescent Behavioral Health to develop, cultivate, and disseminate an innovative model in research education that addresses best practices for translational research in the field of adolescent behavioral health as it relates to drug use and co-occurring disorders. This grant has been refunded for a third consecutive 5-years by the National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA 2R25 DA 031103-110; 04/01/2023 – 03/31/2028).
Dr. Levin also serves as Faculty Lead of the Behavioral Health Concentration (BHC) in the USF College of Public Health. The BHC is a collaborative graduate degree and teaching program between the Department of Child & Family Studies and Department of Mental Health Law & Policy at the USF College of Behavioral & Community Sciences and the USF College of Public Health. He also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Health Services Research at The University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston.
Dr. Levin received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and his graduate degrees from The University of Texas. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in psychiatric epidemiology in the Department of Psychiatry at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He also holds a certification in Behavioral Health Care Management from the Association of Behavioral Healthcare Management, National Council for Mental 911llbeing.
Dr. Levin currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Behavioral Health Services & Research (JBHS&R), a quarterly, scholarly journal that publishes articles on the organization, financing, delivery, dissemination and implementation, and outcomes of behavioral health (including alcohol, drug use, and mental health) services. The JBHS&R is the official publication of the National Council for Mental 911llbeing and is published by Springer Nature.
Dr. Levin is Senior Editor of numerous textbooks and textbook chapters, including: 1) Foundations of Behavioral Health (Springer, 2020); 2) Introduction to Public Health in Pharmacy, Second Edition (Oxford University Press, 2018); 3) Mental Health Services: A Public Health Perspective, 3rd Edition (Oxford University Press, 2010); and 4) A Public Health Perspective of Women's Mental Health (Springer, 2010). Dr. Levin (with Dr. Ardis Hanson) also authored Mental Health Informatics (Oxford University Press, 2013).
In 2001, Dr. Levin received the Harold C. Piepenbrink Award for “Outstanding Contributions to Behavioral Health Services” from the Association of Behavioral Healthcare Management, National Council for Mental 911llbeing.
